Smack dab in the middle of High season?? Great time for fishermen and eco-tourists to get out of the cold and into paradise.

Yep, February is the very peak of the high season for CR travel from the US.

Those bungholes who want to mess with your and my plans to get to those great SuperBowl parties--only way I can figure it. Inconsiderate pricks--why don't they stay home, get trashed at their buddies SB party and lay some pipe with a heavy Gringa?

OK, it is the high season, but I booked a $310 flight from IND through DEN on Frontier last year in February.

According to a Clark Howard segment, the airlines highball far in advance and must actually get some bites to make it worthwhile. In the past when I tracked flights on kayak.com I usually found the best price 30 days out. This past year it's been 60 days, but lately it's returning to 30 days. Also, most airlines aren't sale pricing their seats.

I'm tracking my 3 month flight after Jan 1, and the prices are the same in most airlines as two weeks out.

I looked today at pricer for January, and the prices were about $300.00 more that last January. Checked March, and were back to usual. Still undecided on when to come down. :(

February is about the time I get cabin fever in the U.S.. I hate the cold and February is definitely the worst. I along with everyone else wants to travel as far south as possible which is why flights are so expensive. You also have to watch out for price increases during Spring Break times.

Not to forget that some % of tourists that had planned on Mexico may come to CR instead. Also some of the more affluent Spring Breakers.

Does anybody ever notice better deals on business class ?

seems that there never is much of a break regardless of when I am looking to buy ?

Its worse than that. I have watched flights very carefully for the last 3 years and they have all been slowly rising. 3 years ago I saw a ticket in off season for a hair under $300 total! Almost everything now is close to $500.

I've been following CHI - SJO flights for over a month, and have noticed this week that while there are no sale prices, the standard low price has dropped in the week after new years to closer to the following weeks. Plus everytime I've checked seats, the planes are less than 1/2 full.
