If I was going to stay 6 months I would go on up to Tamarindo area--great place and close to other beautiful beaches and safe--not much around Montezuma

I have always liked samara the best. It is great for swimming as it is in a bay which is protected by a reef and an island. There is some entry level surfing. But great surfing beaches close by. Also close is playa carillo which is a beautiful undeveloped beach. with a little village over looking it.

Mal Pais and santa theresa are mostly high end and everything is along the very dusty road. Some transport is needed. Cabuya down the road to the park cabo blanco is more to my taste.

Montezuma was probably great 30 yrs ago but the guidebooks have not caught on.

Montezuma sucks, IMO, but I would love to live in or around Santa Teresa for 6-12 months. An awesome place with a great vibe!
