Well, after 8 trips to CR, I've decided to try to make the move. I'm looking for a small 1 bedroom apt, or a roommate situation. I was hoping if you guys had some insight. Monthly, I'd really like to be around the $500 range if possible. If you guys know anyone who is looking for something similar, let me know. I'm clean, financially sound, and dont smoke, if that matters.

hey my buddy has just the place for you...its one door over from HLH all new floors, kitchen and bath...very safe ...if you go to ISG and go to costa rica class. you will see some photos .....he is a good guy and has a condo across the street ...pm me if you need some more info !!! (i have been in all 5 of his units and they are very nice ....he will work with you on the price ...that 400 to 500 range I think is good !!!

Why don't you get a place that rents month to month. Hang out at the gringo places, look through CL (actually a good source of apartments), Tico Times (more expensive usually) la nacion and decide first on your geographical location. Nothing worse than getting into a lease then having to lose a deposit and have harsh words with your landlord.

Expect to over pay if you use craigslist, ticotimes, amcostarica, insidecostarica or any other "gringo news source".. Nacion is probably the best out of the papers. Feel free to shoot me a PM of any you find I can let you know if the area is decent or not.. Screw living in Escazu and Santa Ana, especially for your price range.

I still havent found anything concrete, I think I'm gonna stay a week in a hotel and do some viewings before I commit to anything.

There are houses and apts for rent in Escazu between 350 and 500? I thought it was more expensive than that.

In line with what Greengo said above, you might well hire Brother Pops to be that wingman/negotiator. If he can find a murder suspect and persuade him to give it up, surely he can find you a good crib and negotiate a price. Just a thought...

BTW, is this Greengo's longest, most informative, most conventionally-coherent post ever (with links yet!)? Love ya guy--just teasing...
