Hello,

Have only been to CR 1 time about 10 yrs ago (HLH and SL- bothe were awesome and a new experience back then) and i am planning a 3 week trip at the beginning of july. Is july generally a busy time (as in i would need to book all hotel in advance)? I am going to book first week of July at SL (teleworking) once VIP card/membership to go through. Next two weeks are just vacation and was hoping to kind of wing it and book everything once i am there (day trips, trip to parks, jaco, etc). Is this a bad plan?

I also wont have my spanish speaking wingman this time…

Thanks!

The time around the 4th of July always seems busy. If you want to stay at the SL I would definitely book in advance if you want to get the room you want. Some of the rooms are great others so so. You can book the SL now and show the VIP card at check-in to get the discount.

I would also book your other hotels well in advance. Most have decent cancelation policies if your plans change. For the Castillo and the SL always book direct and not through a third-party booking site. If you want to stay at the Cocal you should generally call them. They also have a 10% CRT discount (at least back in December) that they don't advertise.

HLH is still around but it is a lot different than it was 10 years ago. I'm pretty sure all the suites are gone and what is left are pretty basic rooms.

Enjoy your trip.

You mentioned teleworking the first week while at SL. Many of the basic, least expensive rooms at SL do not have a table to sit at or even a chair. Personally, I’ve spent many hours working on my laptop at a table in the bar. Depends on the type of work you are doing. If you need a workspace with privacy of your room for calls or video conference then check out room details on their web site and as Harddrive suggests, book early.

Also wondering, are there any room recommendations for good wifi connections at SL, or is it just in common bar area? Searched through the threads and sounds like it isnt great in the rooms. Thanks again

If you want good connection for work then stay at SL and 2 minutes walk to Ave.9 is the Selena hostel with work space. There is a fee but good wifi.
