What are you looking to do exactly? Are you most concerned about receiving calls... from a particular country? What are your needs around making calls, and to where?

I would try to do a bit of homework on this service and on how the calls move back and forth. It says you get a UK and US number. I had something similar many, many years ago and it was kind of a pita, and not terribly reliable.

This is probably fine if your looking for people in the US or UK to be able to reach you without having to make an international call. In my experience that part worked ok. Making calls to anywhere was an issue. The set up I had was like dialing to a switchboard, which then dialed the intended number, then called back and connected you when the other party answered.

Today with: skype, whatsapp, voip, google voice, etc. You have many options including some free ones.

Just as an example I have voip service at home. Runs me about $5 a month. I can set it to forward calls. When in CR I have it relay the call to my CR cell. Cost is just over 7 cents a min. Yes I'm paying the tab but it is less than $5 an hour. Since I'm not conducting business most calls I get are short. I can set my US cell to forward as well... but it forwards to my home voip number... which gets relayed to CR.

If your call needs are tied to business purposes you probably want a robust solution. Getting an international plan via your domestic cell provider might make sense, despite the cost.

I have VoIP for business for $5 per month I have a special number for my VoIP phone app. I transfer my cell to the VoIP. My out going call is set to my cell number. When I travel out of country no one knows I am gone. Just need to figure out how to transfer the text messages.

Was trying to go with a personal cell phone that I could use, since my prepaid plan from the state doesn’t work international. However, I have skype and it has worked great in DR.
