Absolutely, they are making an example out of him. To deter others from doing the same and those who want to give a big FU to the government after being warned numerous times.

Well that has got to suck. Arrive in Costa Rica and not even make it to the gulch without an OIJ escort. After his issue with customs returning from the DR one would have thought that he would have seen the writing on the wall. Hope he gets away with not being welcomed back and not having to spend too much time in a Costa Rican prison cell.

Man, quite a bit of pent up hostility against this guy, when he is down, none the less...

I accidentally run into a few of his videos in YouTube...would have never guessed he had such a bad rep among mongers

Look at what is happening due to this ass clown...

Guys are now asking themselves if it is safe to travel to CR. You are not breaking any laws by doing so, but due to this guy's stupidity and arrogance, there's doubt about whether it's ok to do so.

He single-handedly affected the scene in Sosua (not that there was much of a scene really), but now he may have affected the scene in CR. This is the reason for the hostility against him.

It is bad enough that he has brought all this unwanted attention to all of us and businesses that treat the majority of us pretty well. I, for one, resent the request sent to all of us to contribute to his defense fund. I feel that it is a situation of his own making. It is his bed, let him lay in it.

FWIW : The scene is Sosua is much larger than the scene in San Jose. (even the scene in Santo Domingo/Boca Chica is about the same in terms of numbers) Cuba Dave had only a small affect on it. He was mainly a Passions guy and that place was going to get shut down for reason's other than Cuba Dave. Word on the street is that the immigration officials denied Cuba Dave admission into the country a good while back and that's when he returned to San Jose.

In terms of breaking the law or not why take legal advice from someone who knows nothing about the law? Personally, I would not cancel a trip to the CR but I certainly understand the guys that have cancelled. It is better to be safe than sorry.

I am not at all reluctant to visit CR and hobby, just as before. But I am damn sure not going to post anything online regarding the girls / places. I might even be sure there are no locals around when I talk shop at SL or LA. It is a shame that theses hypocrite bastards are so concerned about protecting a facade. I am sure many of the shot callers visit these girls, as well.

Again, it's not about the scene / industry / whatever. It's about one guy that became the poster Ch*ld for sex tourism in their country. He pissed them off, it was personal (from their point of view), and they wanted to make an example of him. I do not doubt the law was crafted with his sites specifically in mind.

Many of us have posted trip reports, and never profited from them as CD has. However this law does not mention profiting (as is considered a 'pimping law'). So we should refrain from 'advertising' the destination as did CD until we know how this will play out.

Exactly. This law is so vague that it doesn't mention any specific act that is the definition of "promoting sexual tourism". And it's not limited to those making money off of it. As written, somebody can interpret it to make posting a trip report online a violation of it and subject the poster to prosecution.

After thinking about it more in depth, what is happening to CD is not really fair (based on a vague law that has not been enforced since its inception). But what is happening to him is his own doing. He was warned in no uncertain terms by Us authorities about his practices. He was banned (or whatever) from the DR. And yet he continued the same behavior. Personally, I think he started believing his own hype and "celebrity status" and needed to feed his ego. And that's what will end up taking him down.

I really wanted to stay out of this convo, but I needed to chime in here. I always avoided the guy because he was doing scumbag things. He also thought he knew better than everyone else. Even guys who told him to be careful. Personally, I do not wish anything like this on anyone. But he was out there telling everyone how he knew best and he was trying to profit in a phucked up way. And because of how he did it, they will probably try to throw the book at him and make an example of a guy who pissed someone off by posting pics and hidden videos and such. It has been a long time since they have tried to go after a "tourist" for this. So you guys who think he didn't do anything wrong wanna scream and holler in support of him, do him a favor and help him get a good legal team. But if you do support what he was doing, you had best be careful around here now. Because he finally pissed someone off enough for this to happen.

When they banned him from DR and seized all his electronics in Miami when he returned from CR you think he would have gotten the hint. CR is not the US. Free Speech ? If you are in a foreign country you have to comply with their laws. Especially, don't thumb your nose at them. It will always come back to bite you in the ass. Is his arrest an "example" ? I think it is more of a warning. You don't make the laws. They do.
