a friend of mine visiting San Jose last week told me he was talking with Guy from the Mona Lisa and that the room rate now is $30 per night cash....great deal even considerations a little inconvenience due to renovations

may be worth the wait

That is actually cheaper than one of the best "love" hotels in San José, which is around $40 for overnight.

I have stayed at both places and Mona Lisa does not hold a candle to Ruta 32 for $40.00. I will say it is more convenient though as you get the room for longer than 12 hours

If you go this way you will see it on the left but you will need to hit the next exit then go over the bridge and come back the opposite direction. The first exit you come to is the entrance to it. All you do is drive into an open garage then press the button on the wall. If you do not want anyone to see you that might be driving around looking for an open spot then wait for the garage door to close. From there go up into the room and put 20,000 colones in the sliding dumb waiter and you will get towels and a receipt. You have the room for 12 hours or until you leave. There is food and drinks you can order if you get hungry.

Rooms are still $39.99 cash only but you have to go to the checkout page to see the discounted prices. Tax is extra.

La Officina is a good place. Ruta 32 is better with much more space, better beds, nicer Jacuzzis . The room service with appetizers, setups and drinks at Tico prices is also a great feature/ They both would require a cab ride from the Sportsmans or Del Rey. At La Officina you can walk outside and flag down a taxi anytime at night. From Ruta 32 you would have to call a taxi to come and pick you up. If you take a taxi there, arrange for the cab to come back when you finish and remember the number of your room. Ruta 32 is also not as likely to be full. They have probably over 75 rooms as compare to about 10.
