I read this article the other day and, upon reflection, I am convinced that this happened to me on my recent trip. When I finally made my reservation, my fare was $75-80 higher than what I had seen the day before. I thought I was just unlucky and had waited too long to book the flight.

My plan, next trip, is to do all my searching on one browser and then switch to another to do the booking.

Valuable post. There is a small program I use daily to rid myself of cookies and everything else like it, from all browsers all at once.. It's a free program I got from a trusted site but here's the direct Website.:
https://www.piriform.com/CCLEANER << CrapCleaner works well and it works fast--I consider it an essential to get gobs of space back and keep my computers, my computers. Their other programs (Speccy, Recuva and Defraggler) are good but not essential.

I read this on another site,

If it's cookies.. then it's easy to verify..

run up the price then clear your cookies and see what happens.

But.. it's not cookies.

Its a bid/demand algorithm.

This is used by many of the sell off places...

the more hits to a certain destination in the course of 24 hours the higher the price will be the next 24 hours.

Its called "Demand Sensing" and utilizes a BPO database and tools created by Micro Strategy.

I doubt it's cookies too.. I check pricing on my cell phone and desktop to confirm it is not cookies, but prices go up and down really quick and you just need to be ready to pounce. Sometimes a deal lasts for half an hour.

I sense it is an algorithm too so I usually put in dates around when I really want to go to try to trick it.

It could be just coincidences, but earlier this year, I was on Copa airlines site for the first time and searched for fares between Orlando and Medellin. I found some fares close to $400. After checking a few times, I have not been able to find fares near that price, no matter how far out I looked. It does seem strange.
