Not sure if it still airs but this has the makings of a NatGeo "Locked Up Abroad" episode. Blogging about sex in foreign destinations and getting Locked Up.....compelling.

No update on the freecubadave site yet. They should just deport him. They made their point and it's going to look bad for them the longer this goes.

And look really bad if something happens to him in prison for what is basically a trumped up charge.

Anyone that is capable of doing so should quietly pressure the CR legal system to deport him and ban him from coming back. They don't need negative press because a tourist died in jail.

When it first happened I felt like he deserved it. But it's time to let him go and move on.

You're right. That's the reasonable way of looking at this...unfortunately for ALL involved, there's nothing reasonable about the process here.

Guys, I understand your pov, but it's THEIR legal system. Frankly, if you don't like how they pursue their laws, then you shouldn't enter their country. Not everyone has a cakewalk legal system like we do, and he should have known that going in. It'll work itself out. He'll go home eventually.

I still think that they will keep him locked up for a while (up to 6 months), and then let him go and deport him. I don't think any prosecutor wamts to take this to trial and get embarrassed with this unproven law. This is just a lesson for him and other mongers.

"other mongers"...hmmm that's a scary term Orange. You don't mean any illustrious members and participants in this forum, do you?

I should have been clearer... I meant putting CD in jail is a lesson for him and a deterrent for the other mongers. I didn't mean put others in jail.

From what I have heard about the law this is not a "trumped up" charge. There is a law and he is accused of breaking it. You or I may not agree with the law, but there is not a lot we can do about it as foreigners. We can hope that he will be dealt with fairly and with justice. And I would also hope that he gets out of custody as soon as possible.

If he could get on just one episode of that show he would make more money than his website ever will.

The article states that CD is ineligible to collect Social Security. Just curious...why is that?
Did he work 'under the table' his entire life?!
