The more common word is sismo which means "quake".

Ticos are more likely to use the term "temblor". Just as we usually say "did you feel the quake?" rather then use the term earthquake.

Here in Panama, you'll hear temblor more often than not not matter how big it was.

This one down in Golfito did anyone feel it in SJO? At first they said nothing major then this AM they said it ruptured the seabed and released gases. Sounds kinda serious to me.

Living here and talking with Latinos everyday, I have to agree with others, temblor is the only word I ever hear used. This goes for Panama and Nicaragua also.

These days they are all temblores

However, when the bigger one's hit that cause the earth to split open then you will here the word: terremoto

Let's hope we keep riding all of these temblores 8)
