I am very sad to report that Alberto Brilliott passed away the afternoon of Thursday, Aug. 11th. He was found by the maid in his apartment. He was a great guy and real character, known by many as The Sausage King. Alberto, always wearing his signature hat, was present most afternoons and evenings holding court in the Sportsmen's. He will be missed tremendously.

Don Sausage was a pillar of the gulch. He helped hold it down for many years. I am sure a lot of guys out there owe him a big debt of gratitude for helping them with the CR experience. He only allowed me to call him "sausage" because he knew I did it affectionately. Alberto, the sausage king of San Jose...... He was a character in my life that I will not soon forget.

So wherever you are, pour one last one out for Don Sausage tonight...... He would appreciate it or get mad for wasting the booze...... heh.....

the DR

<------from one OG to another....... RIP Don Sausage.....

What sad news. To know Alberto was to love Alberto. He was always my go to guy. He will be sorely missed.

He truly enjoyed life. Life is not fair and passes you quickly.

My heart is extremely heavy!

R.I.P. Alberto!

Bill needs to do a Vegas style tribute to the man by dimming the lights in the Lodge for a few minutes. He was a true legend of the Gulch. Raise a glass of white wine in his honor..

Agreed!

Bill is a class act, I'm sure he already has a plan to honor Alberto. God, it's so hard to believe when I go in September I won't see my friend who always had great advice and a warm smile to welcome you.

Alberto will truly be missed.

Yes, usually wore a Hawaiian type shirt and a signature hat as someone before said.

Sad news indeed. I remember sitting with him quite a few times over the years in the Del Rey, the SL and Rick's at the Dunn Inn.

Alberto the man in the Panama hat

The man could tell a story or two

He was the basis of a character in a great novel by Steve Martini called Guardian of lies

His name is Lorenzo " mayor of gringo gulch"

Great book

This is truly sad news
Alberto was a true I-con of the gulch with his famous panama hat
he was always helping out people giving advice taking new guys under his wing and showing them the ropes
even when I arrived green as can be to the gulch 10 years ago Alberto was there with his stories and advice.
Alberto will be surely missed by myself and many others here in Costa Rica
Rest in peace my friend
Jim
