Hotel Taormina started charging chica fee of $25. Looks like they started a week back. Whole reason we booked this hotel for our trip was it did not have chica fee. When asked why they started, they say some girls were behaving badly and throwing tantrums so they started this. I got a Chica from Sportsmen and she had an argument with front desk guy during her signup and he kicked her out. Just keep in mind before booking this hotel

When I saw your post I quickly called the Hotel from my home in FL. I'm booked at the hotel from 18 - 24 Mar.
The desk clerk informed me that "yes they did start this and the best he can do is $15.00 a night for the guest to be signed in". Needless to say I was not expecting this nor is it a deal breaker for this trip. Bummer. Update - did some fast phone calling/emails and was able to reserve a room at La Amistad and cancel my Taormina reservation. So far so good.

Wow, that's too bad. That WAS one of my favorite hotels in SJ, but not no more.

Thanks to the post of htgy17 my trip to San Jose won't be a downer due to Hotel Taormina chica rule changes. Posts like his is what still makes this board relevant and worth reading. Thanks again htgy17 for the timely post.

Just as bad as when the Dunn Inn stopped letting chicas in.

I was going to stay at Taorima first time 3-18 to 3-23 and thanks to this post I cancelled and booked La Amstead.

I've been to La Amstead and Castillo too many times to count so no worries.

Someone needs to tell the promotional director over there ( or whatever title ) that people actually discuss their policy changes in forums.. and that they therefore may make less money overall due to that.

Good idea, but ticos don't seem to think in terms of lost monger customer revenue.
I thought the Dunn Inn would have suffered without us but they seem to be surviving on the eco family trade.
Again we need to keep a low profile and try to rein in the chicas who act out.

That is really a shame. I always like Taormina as alternative place to stay on longer trips for a break from the Sportsmens. One thing to keep in mind, when I used to stay at the Taormina, I always booked for two people to avoid issues with any potential guest fees. The advice I got even back in the Mona Lisa days was to always book for two people and you would never be hassled.

I just checked booking.com and I looked at staying the night of March 31. For one person, including breakfast but not refundable, it was $69 ($77.56 with taxes) for the deluxe King room. For two people it was $79 ($89.80 with taxes). So with the guest fee, there is no reason to book for two people. The rate difference between 1 and two guests with taxes is $12.24. Not really a whole lot different than a $15 guest fee (assuming you only bring back one guest per day). And on the days where you play onsite like in at a Pension then you will actually save a few bucks.

For me, the nights I bring back zero guests, far exceeds the ones where I bring back multiple so for me this fee will be inconsequential and I do find the hotel overall to be a great value.

I just checked in and was informed of the new fee... $15 per chica. Bye bye Taormina. I live on the coast and 'been staying at Taormina since the Mona Lisa days whenever passing through San José. Real shame. ' Twas a great place to stay. We're running out of nice, chica friendly places to stay at good prices. The red light has been fading for some time now in San José and this moves it along for me. I won't spend a dime in that freekin' bar my stay here... 3 nights after returning today from 2 months in the Bay Islands Honduras. Welcome Home... Pura Vida.
