I went by there during the Xmas holiday, had the iron fence closed and a chain rap around it. Hemingway next to it looks closed too. I use to enjoy those places.

Castillo is open. I stayed there from Xmas day through Sunday and enjoyed the 50% off rate plus the all-inclusive deal that ended Jan 5th. There was a pretty good crowd there. You may have looked at the old entrance that is chained shut. Walk down the hill 20 paces and there is another gate opening to a ramp and the check-in desk and bar.

I did see a little activity at the Hemingway with someone sweeping up the porch. and the front door was open. It was for sale last year listed at $450,000. I guess someone bought it and is in the process of planning a remodel and suffering from buyer's remorse.

Curious if the shutdown of bars and restaurants has affected either since they have a different setup? Maybe if purchase the all inclusive can skirt the new landscape (COVID-19)?

If you are not a Costa Rican national you are not going to be able to enter the country and if you are you are, you are going to have to self-quarantine for 14 days.

You could always fly to Managua, find somebody to sneak you into Costa Rica and then find your way to the hotel, and then stay under the radar. Then you'll have to find your way back across the border without getting caught.

This is actually pretty easy up a Los Chiles / Las Tabillas. There are always Nicos crossing the border illegally and there are even piratas waiting for fares to take you into Los Chilles. I've watched it a few times and it is even more hilarious than watching the Mexicans cross into the US
