I am just finishing a long weekend trip to SJO. I came to see an old amiga of mine. For whatever reason, she wanted me to stay in the Morazon, so I did.

Pros:
-Staff was very nice and helpful and many speak some English (although not an issue for me as my Spanish is passable)
-AC in room was good.
-Bed was comfortable.
-Decent deals in the restaurant/bar
-ScotiaBank ATM in the lobby.
-Very good location (relative to downtown and the Del Rey)
-Breakfast was decent.

Cons:
-Decor out of the 80's, including carpet and furniture.
-Price was not cheap. It's not like it is expensive either, but I thought it was high by CR standards. Bu then again, I usually go to Medellin and am used to much cheaper prices. The amount I paid at the Morazon would have paid for my two bedroom apartment with jacuzzi on the roof in Laureles.
-Lots of noise from the streets. Not good if you are a light sleeper.

I prefer La Amistad, but would stay here again if need be.

PS - NO chica fees.

Does the Morazon restaurant still have the 1,200 C casero specials?

Greetings all,

I'm requesting a little in country info. Is the Morazon permanently closed? under construction? leveled? etc? I was working on a trip even before the virus and couldn't find any info or listings for the hotel. It wasn't taking reservations via hotels.com or the website? Any news?

Thanks!!

I'm beginning to wonder if they're going to reopen or just sell it.

I sent an email to reservationes but no reply; you can no longer make reservations on their website & their is no Covid info; & you can't book a reservation on any of the travel sites.

I never got Bada Bing's Soprano discount in the early 2000s. But they gave discounts to frequent guests. I doubt if current employees have heard of it, just us old farts.

It will never reopen as the Hotel Morazan. When they closed they screwed everyone out of their retirement funds, and Christmas bonus (aguidilia?). It took a long time for some of the lucky employees to find jobs and most are still unemployed. A former receptionist now works the desk at Taormina. Ricky Ricardo remains unemployed. It is really sad that the long time employees lost so much. Last time I checked, the hotel's old website domain could be purchased for $13.99.
