FYI- If you can't get college age women back home, you won't be able to get them in CR. In other words, if you have no game at home, it will be even less in CR.

Many guys go in thinking that just because they're American, it will make the women wet for them. I'm not trying to throw a wet blanket on your plans just giving you a reality check.

Thanks for the heads up. I think I have pretty good game since I can still pull girls in clubs in the US, plus I'm around their same age anyways. I was looking for the Costa Rica younger crowd, college crowd. I wouldn't be asking if I knew I couldn't mingle.

I like the easier working Ticas because you pay, get laid and go home but once in a while its nice to flirt and try to bring one home. Makes you feel you worked hard for it haha.

Hi,

Thanks

I have found "good" cute ticas* in the SL and the HDR. And they actually wind up in my bed.

Most are at least college age and one is a real college student.

*isn't "tica girls" redundant? That's basically saying "girl girls".

Yeah. I should know better since I'm latino since tica is basically "Costa Rican girl". So yes, I mean good cute ticas. 8)

For context as you interpret the wisdom shared here...

A number of us fart dust. And when we orgasam one will hear a sound closely resembling the backfire from a '72 volkswagen.

Good luck.

I'm latino, speak and write Spanish fluently, and have over 50 CR stamps in my US passport.

I've picked up a few "nonpros (*)" in various places in Costa Rica, but quite frankly I find the effort involved isn't worth it.

Why? Probably because I don't live there.

I typically go down for a long weekend. My longest trip ever was 10 days, back in the good old days of Hotel M. A long weekend really isn't enough time to find, woo and bed a typical Costa Rican female who isn't out to snare a foreigner so she can get some quick cash or - heaven forbid! - a US visa courtesy of an unplanned (by you) pregnancy.

The first thing you have to understand is you aren't in the US. US "game" or pickup strategies may not work. Ticas aren't typically hanging around in clubs by themselves looking to hook up with strangers. Ticas usually run in packs and socialize with people they know or people who know people they know. Strangers that approach them and try to pick them up are going to strike out 99 times out of 100 UNLESS:
  • you are famous AND/OR
  • look like a latin Chris Hemsworth AND/OR
  • speak Spanish flawlessly (as opposed to Bronx or Tijuana Spangrish) AND/OR
  • have colones / dollars falling out of your pockets as you stroll into the VIP area of the club AND/OR
  • can dance salsa/cumbia/merengue/bachata

To put it in terms our capitalistic, money-driven brothers can understand - the cost / benefit ratio is unfavorable. I'd much rather spend my limited time with working girls than trying to find that elusive unicorn, the tica who will fall for my "charms".

If, despite all this, you are really obsessed with snagging a non-pro, I recommend you try meeting ticas via social media - Tinder+, Facebook, etc - well before your trip. That way you can chat them up before you get there, they get to know you, you can arrange an encounter from Day 1 and see how things go from there. Even then be aware you might be hooking up with a working girl pretending to be a non-pro.

Best of luck. I hope you prove me wrong.

I was 46-47 when I went back to school and started to learn spanish, at the same time I learned to dance bachata, cumbia, and salsa. That changed my whole experience not just in Costa Rica but in the DR as well. I am average in looks tall with short thinning hair but in pretty good shape minus a little bit of a beer belly, but not bad, maybe an extra 10-15 pounds. My biggest asset was that I am not afraid to approach anyone I wanted to talk to. I had no issues going up to a table of 10-20 people and asking if any of the girls would dance with me. I always thought it was funny the reactions I would get from people that did not know me, as there would almost always be 1 lady that would give me the gratuitous dance probably out of pity, but that is where the fun started. I would always begin dancing like shit then after a few seconds get serious. From there I would have other girls come over and cut in and eventually be invited to the group. I met a lot of people this way and wound up with many later dates. The other thing I should mention is I always kept a room somewhere outside of the gulch that I could take non working girls to. Unfortunately the Royal Dutch casino is now closed, but I could get a room there for 3 weeks and pay about $500.00. It was nice since they had a disco on the second floor and it was easy to meet women there and just go upstairs. The other thing was that visiting 3-5 times a year helped quite a bit as well. In all my experiences I would have to say that being a gringo, treating the women with respect, speaking spanish and knowing how to dance, maintaining self control and being fun to be around, the women warmed up quickly and did not seem to mind the age difference, nor the average looks.

Here are a couple of bars where you can meet "regular" women. Someone has already mentioned going over to San Pedro, near the university. Always a good option.

As I get older, I hit these venues less and less. Decent spanish and game is very helpful. Please be careful at all of these venues to not hit on some Tico's date (or sister). They will not react well.

(1) El Cuartel de la Boca del Monte (https://www.facebook.com/elcuartelcr/)

Just down the street from the Del Rey. A very young, college age crowd for the most part. A very large venue with multiple bar areas. Live entertainment on many nights. Mondays used to be a very busy night. Sometimes a cover charge for the band. I have seen a few Del Rey girls in here that I recognized before enjoying a "night off" with friends. I wouldn't go much before 10 pm. Even though it is walkable from the gulch, take a taxi. It's cheap

(2) Castros (https://www.facebook.com/Castros-Bar-y- ... 585218566/)

This is a disco-type bar. Latin women love to dance and if you are relatively young, have decent spanish and can salsa and cumbia, you could get lucky. Dance skills need to be real, not the gringo dancing we've all done in Key Largo. Varied age range here and I have seen a few "working girls".

(3) El Pueblo

This is an entertainment complex a short distance from the gulch. Lot's a different venues. I've had good times there but I have also seen a lot of altercations with drunk ticos and gringos. I would definitely take a wingman here.

If you are respectful and considerate, many of the people will actually take you on the floor for 'lessons'. Provided it is not a packed dance floor, which when I visited in the weekdays it wasn't. I never had an issue to find someone to help me learn. I never made a hook-up here, and some of the women that went to the floor with me were not in my selection bracket.

Been there 3 times. I think you need more than a wingman. You need a local with you. man, woman, tranny, whatever, I wouldn't wander in there either solo or with a pack of gringos. I wouldn't say dangerous, but they don't really want us there. Especially not at my age at least.
