In town right now. Walked by Soda Peru Saturday at noon. Place was locked up. I looked in the window and the place is empty. No tables, chairs, counter, etc. Hope it's just a refurbishment and not closed for good. I would miss it.

All over San Jose many small businesses and restaurants have closed because of new labor and wage and tax rules.
Was there a "for rent sign" ( se alquila) outside ?

No for rent or sale sign. Never understood the restaurant business. I've seen so many restaurants here and in the US that give good value, are always packed with customers go belly up

Lots of places shutdown for a holiday break. Nothing to do with tax labor laws.

Hopefully they are just using a holiday shutdown to do some major cleaning or something, hence the tables and chair gone. I would hate to think that this place is gone as it is my go to at least three times each trip for a late lunch. Although not cheap, the food is incredible an fairly priced.

I doubt they would be shutting down due to any wage and tax issues as it seems like the very few employees (who haven't changed in years) are all family.

I hope someone local comes back and confirms that they are indeed open.

I’m wondering if anyone has a more recent sighting? It might be telling, since the Epiphany (Three King’s) 1/6 holiday has passed. In my past experience in other Latin countries, a holiday break/shutdown would end after then... although if tied in with any renovations bets are off, obviously.

Stopped by today and unfortunately, the place is no longer in business. There is a "For Rent" sign in the window.

Sorry to hear of their closing. I always liked Soda Peru. They seemed to be busy most of the time, especially around lunch time.
