Can I get a recommendation or 2 on some of the better/finer Italian restaurants not too far from Downtown. A bit on the more upscale side. Appropriate for a business meeting. Thank You.

I was at the Taormina Hotel about 6 weeks ago and to my surprise the Gatopardo Restaurant has done a big turn around. They now have decent food reasonable Costa Rica Prices and a very nice dining atmosphere. There are a lot of restaurants so for me it was a convenience but I have to admit I was happy with the restaurant.

In addition to Gatto Pardo in Taormina:

Limoncello
Domenico in Plaza Antares
Andiamo La is nice but too far (Santa Ana)
Olivo in Sabana Norte
There's another one CRTers used to rave about but I forgot the name.

HAHA!!! That's ironic because the person I am taking out to dinner is staying at Taormina (while I'm enjoying the SL... ) so that might be a ideal fit.

A number of us enjoy very much the authentic Italian dishes, including pizza in a wood-burning oven, at Trattoria Sapore which is located on Ave 2, 75 meters west of the Plaza de la Democracia next to the new Jade museum. Telephone 2222-8906.

Marco Caldi, the owner/chef at the popular Il Ritorno, closed that restaurant and is in the process of opening a new one in the next few weeks in Barrio Escalante I believe.

Thanks Don Papi - Il Retorno is the one I couldn't remember. Good to know he's opening up a new one.
