All of the food that I have had there was excellent. Tried the fish sandwich, it was huge and very fresh.
Still mourning Jessica gone to run the new Chubbs in Santa Ana. Watching her bartend was such a pleasure, so talented!

Chubbs serves a really good sea bass. And they have a good casados, too.

I have been going to chubbs in the gulch for years. Does not seem to get the big tico crowds it used to get. I usually get there about 4pm and stay till 7pm or so.

Music way way to loud, inconsistent service and food. Now they give you a half glass of wine. Used to be full...
place seems dirty, leaves trash on the floor.
This location going downhill fast. Guess the brain trust behind chubbs is focusing on the new locations.

Barrio escalante is the new hotspot for dining and drinking. Its not far away. The area around the costa rican beer factory, fridas pub.....guess ticos going to that area instead.

Jessica is the best, original chubbs not the same.

BEWARE OF CHUBBS

Just ate there tonight and used my american debit card. Bill was 3600 colones total. Checked my account right after and i was charged 7.92$ . Thats 451 colones to the dollar. An 18% markup. What a bunch of lowlife thieves scumballs. It only cost me 1.25$ but its still a ripoff. I use the same card often and the rate is always 541 colones per dollar so its not my card. To be fair the transaction is still pending , not final but only a slight chance it will be adjusted.

They very recently increased prices 10% across the board so it is getting very expensive. 9$ for sloppy joes with fries. 9$ for chicken fingers with no fries.

Place empty this afternoon but waited 30 min for a hamburgher. Usually when you wait that long in CR one of the items is usually cold. This time both hot.

If the ripoff scam lowlife exchange rate holds will never go back.

I doubt very much that they have any control over the exchange rate on your debit card. More likely the banks involved in the transaction... the CR bank and your bank.

Oh i do think they have a control over the exchange rate. As i wrote i use this card all the time at other places and always get 541 colones to the dollar. Maybe you just visit here and are not aware of all the ways you can get taken. Do you really think their bank would give an exchange rate of 451 when the official rate is 541. I doubt that. Of course anything is possible in CR when it comes to them taking your money.

If it is there bank cheating their customers, they should change banks. And they are benefiting from this. Nothing more than stealing. An 18% surcharge when using a dollar account card. Lots of ticos have US dollar accounts also.

Using any kind of card in CR is asking for trouble.

CR banks don't set the exchange rate on purchases with cards.

Orange can you expand on this? Last trip I was all cash and carrying pockets full of coins, accidentally dropping the different sized money on the ground, hunting for fair exchange rates, etc...

I land tomorrow and plan on using colones only for chicas... I have a chase sapphire preferred, $0 international fees, 2x points on travel.

Is there a risk if I use it to rent a car, pay hotel Taormina, use it for dining? Aren't these reputable places and restaurants?
