For a country known for its coffee, there are very few coffee shops. One great one is Cafe Miel around the corner from the SL (make a right out of the hotel, go to the end of the block, make a right, go 25 meters). Its run by a great Group of girls and their mom I think. Good espresso and novelty coffee drinks, very good Colombian empanadas, some pastry and cake. The place is tiny and only has a handful of seats. They have free wifi. Customers include a lot of students, European tourists, and me.

Excellent scenery. My cousin and I helped them move some furniture in when they were moving and getting ready to open. Got a nice view and very pleasurable hug. They were not open by the time we left and I have not been back since. Glad to hear they are still in business. I have ate at the French place upstairs and down a little bit, we were not impressed. It was a little pricy and I left hungry which did not make me happy. I ended up needing to get a midnight burger at the Del Mar after a late night workout.

I've never actually stopped in for anything, but this place always has people there every time I walk by. Seems a good indicator in my book.

The place was very busy many times last week with the crowd spilling out into the sidewalk & Ave. 9. I often had to alter my course on my mongering excursions when heading to the DR or Z2 or when heading back to the SL or LA. 8)

The Cafe Miel just round the corner from SL on Ave. 9 has just expanded and now has about 8 tables,
Much more comfortable with wifi and same great coffee and pastries.

Cafe Miel was the BEST bakery/little cafe spot that I ever visited on earth. I had a Chilena con dulce and a mojito there. AY DIOS MIO!

They have redesigned the lay-out of the café. The place to order and the products are now along the back wall. They have also added more tables. It is much nicer IMHO. And, most importantly the quality of the food and coffee is still great

I don't know if it's the best cafe on earth. I've had better, but this is a GREAT place to visit for a coffee or snack. I'm a big beer snob and coffeee snob. This place is a good place for a nice coffee break. They have another one north near (sort of) the hospital area.

For chocolate lovers, occasionally they have diff chocolate brownies and cakes that are rich. :D

Only bad thing I can say is they moved some tables to the front where patrons can look right out onto the sidewalk. I walked by a few days ago and there were some vacationing old gringas sitting in front, homely would be an understatement, their talons exposed in their sandals. If any furry mouse were to scamper by, it would be captured...

I immediately became aghast, thinking if I was back in the states, these would be the females available to me at my advanced age... :( :x

They gave me dirty looks as I walked in to get some chocolate treat to go, they probably know mongers are afoot in this hood and I was one of them...
