I just got back 7/3 from a much needed trip to PARADISE.I noticed the 2nd floor of the HOTEL MORAZON restaurant has been opened up,as in walls knocked down and made into a big outdoor balcony with glass, great for al-fresco dining and watching the girls walk to work at the DEL REY

Is the sports book still there, in the corner? Where's the bar located now? Was that moved?

shh... Please dont tell too many people about the Morazon. they may clean the place up and then start raising their rates.
As ratty as it has been over the last 10+ years, Some of us CRT'ers still feel it a great value. Free breakfast, close to everything, decent maids, a cartoon character for the bellman/concierge, free wifi, no chicas fees. and the occasional chinese mafioso in the casino collecting his vig.

Ricardo

He had a heart attack last year. I'm sure walking up four flights of stairs all those times when the elevator was not working didn't help

Ricardo was always helpful, yet annoying. He could make a ton more money, if he was a little more organized, and a shade smarter.
I had heard that his health improved, after his incident and he was back to work. Not sure if he also suffered a milfd stroke, too.

I was just there last week and the bar area is a great improvement and I think the sports book moved to the DR. Ricardo was there and as usual had his hand out. Not much more has improved and they sure need new carpet in the rooms and halls. The room was not as noisy as in the past maybe because KL was slower as the back bar was empty both Saturday, Sunday & Monday.

All very true - while I heard they are under <recent> new ownership, given their location I have always wondered why they never cleaned the place up and really made it a showplace - but maybe that's part of the charm.

I was just there, and I like that part of town - and, no, a block away from the HDR has zero bearing on why I post this.

Some random observations:

The bar on the 2nd floor looks good and is open air - the 2 girls they have running it are cute and efficient - I called for room service and it was there in what seemed like 3 min's!

The noon buffet looked good, was cheap (I forget how much but like $6?)

The rooms are now non smoking - so you want one with a balcony if you do smoke

Ricky is as fat as ever but recovered from his stroke - he is a dummy, but basically a nice person.
Being in sales for 35 years, I do admire his aggressiveness - most Costa Rican's are way too passive - but if he was a little smarter, he would do better.

I paid $48 a night including breakfast - don't recall if that included tax.

They hired a new night receptionist - I think she is really pretty, exotic looking - nice too - while a Nica, she even looked like she could be Indian - the ones from the Asian country (you know - with the dot  :P :P :P     ), not Native American.

I thought she was really pretty hot! Anyone else know who I'm talking about?

Ate there a couple of times last week & enjoyed the place. It's open-air now overlooking the busy intersection of A1/C7. Had a bowl of chifrijo 1 night & some ceviche & pork fajitas the other & the food was good. A relaxed ambiance with salsa music playing in the background with a few tv screens around showing soccer & baseball. Service can be a little slow but hey it's CR & I'm on vacation-I've got a few extra minutes to burn.
