if you have a car, the White House in the mountains above Escazu is elegant, charming, food excellent, service excellent and views that will blow your mind...

And if you are lucky and Mel Gibson is in town you might be able to hear him yelling at his girlfriend since he has a place just up the mountain from the White House.

My information is a bit more current as I showed the property to a prospective purchaser this am. The White House Hotel was sold a couple years ago and was re named the Grand Tara. The new owners (Grand Tara) lost it in foreclosure a few months ago. Currently it's on the market for sale, run by a skeleton staff of caretakers, guards and a receptionist. The restaurant, bar, casino and spa are closed for business.

My feeling is the old White House will be sold as a family compound, embassy home or a medical recovery center.

If you're looking for a great view restaurant to bring a date, you can try Tequecia in San Antonio Escazu or the Monastery, in the hills but near the Santa Ana line.

The Kalu Cafe, 1 block east of the Dunn Inn, is pretty good. The rooftop patio is nice for an evening dinner.

Damn ! That's sad news, I loved that place, been there for lunch many times, really beautiful atmosphere and view, fun and beautiful ride up there.

Right now I have a letter from Publisher's Clearing House telling me my number is in the potential winner group and my chances are excellent. As soon as I win I'll be calling you, I'm going to want it as a private home where select top chicas of my choosing can come visit and get away for a few days, maybe like a Hugh Hefner compound.

I'll be paying cash by what it's telling me here, I'm also interested in helicopter rentals, I remember the place had a nice helipad, I think we can land on the roof of HDR. Will be calling soon, it says in less than 2 months I'm going to win !!! :D :D :D

Hey Net, Not sure how large those Publisher's Clearing House prizes are these days. Don't suffer the same fate Bruce Dern did playing the lead role in "Nebraska"!

The owners are asking $3.9MM although a couple brokers have it on their web sites for less, $3.9MM is the number owner tells me. I miss it too as it was the closest bar to my condo. With 100 hrs. in helicopters at the tail end of my flying days in the U.S., it brought back memories going in and out in the owner's Jet Ranger. (The helicopter became another unneeded news story for him.

With 3 stand alone villas, one with 2 bedrooms, the other two with 3 bedrooms it does have potential for someone like Hefner or Hefner like. 16 rooms in the main building, room for more chicas! Perhaps if kept on low profile that could work as it's inside a gated compound.

100 members at $35K each would be an interesting deal. Who wants to manage that? Maybe Bang Bang? Lennydo?
