Post subject:  Introducing the CRT Gourmet restaurant reviewer!

We were asked, and we listened. Many of you PM's us with request to have some reviews in the restaurant section. We have no vested interest in any of these places, nor do we receive anything in return from them. I asked a friend who lives full time in the San Jose area, to come on board and write reviews. He eats out often and I value his opinion.

They will range from local spots for quick and easy meals to top of the line restaruants. As he writes them he will post them.

He obliged and will post them In this section. They are his honest assement of his expirience at these places on a particular night. Please feel free to comment PRO OR CON, or request a particular restauarant to be reviewed.

We strive to provide you with everything that you have asked for and will continue to do so.

Post subject:  Valle Azul

On my last trip I asked my chica if she knew any good miradors, and she took me to Valle Azul in Escazu. About a 30 minute cab ride from the Gultch up into the mountains. I loved this place and would like to hear the reviewer's opinion. From the outside, it just looks like one of those corrogated aluminum prefab buildings that are all over the place. Inside is large and open and pretty simple. But the view is spectacular. It wasn't too crowded but the few open tables right up against the windows had reserved signs on them. We got seated one row back, but then they decided after a minute to move us to the window anyway. Dress is casual, except for the waiter who was dressed very formally and throwing French phrases at us (as if I'm not confused enough by Spanish). I can't remember the name of the beef dish I had but it was like a roast/brisket - very tender and deliciously seasoned. Entrees were only about $10 so it was a bargain. You could easily sit there all night and not get bored with the view. The cab ride ended up being more than the meal. I recommend getting a cab to take you and wait for you. Get a cab on the street and negotiate $10/hour.

Anyway, I've never seen anything about Valle Azul on this board and of the limited number of restaurantes in SJ I've experienced, this one is my favorite, so I thought I'de mention it.

Post subject:  Good Spot

I took a date there on my first trip in September and had an excellent meal. Met the chef and enjoyed exchanging restaurant experiences and recipes. His Pasta Putanesca was excellent.
This place has a far better view than Tara.

Post subject:  Machu Pichu

Machu Pichu on Pase Colon is clearly my favorite place to eat. The seafood plate is second to none.

Post subject:  Good Food In CR

When I go to CR, I like to eat at McDonalds and the buffet at the Key Largo. Of course the breakfast buffet at the Presidente is great. My key concern is not great food just clean food so I dont get the runs. Living in Los Angeles I can get great food everyday, but not ladies who like leche. So my advice is when in Rome; meaning get the ladies in CR and dont worry about eating.

Well we can all get great food at home but not great food CHEAP. It's a shame you haven't taken advantage of some of the great dining in SJO like the Argentinian steak houses or seafood places. Going to dinner is a ritual and a nightly adventure with the guys I hang with, and who better than VB to recommend the best places.
But if McDonalds and chicas do it for you... :)

Machu Pichu is definitely a great place to eat. Second that on the seafood plate -- excellent. And the desserts weren't too shabby either if I recall correctly.

BTW, is that Oasis right across the street? I noticed some pretty nice looking ladies hanging in front of a doorway, but thought it was business, not pleasure, over there. Then I get back here and see the monger map, and it sure looks like where Oasis would be.

Where has the CRT Galloping Gourmet gone? Dreaded word on the street was, Circus offered him a position to head up all Food & Beverage operations for the award winning concept.
