I booked an AA for Labor Day week just in case back open both ways. If not I am only out small $ and effort and should get a credit of my miles and seat upgrades. Worried about my health? Of course but with so few travelers, sterile planes and knowing 98% of the air refreshed from outside air and charcoal filters for it all plus my own PPE not too worried the direct flight from DFW.

Also with my acute bronchitis early March and serious symptoms may have caught the Novel Coranavirus on my way back from Colombia anyways, or more likely in Houston George Bush terminal changing planes before it all went down.

The borders won't open on June 15, unfortunately, and the guidance given by the CR govt that the borders will remain closed until June 15 is confusing. The government has laid out a timeline for the next several months that doesn't even mention open borders. Domestic tourism is SLOWLY opening up, but beaches are only open in the early morning (for surfers, e.g.) until July 12, when they are scheduled to open from M-F and they will remain closed on the weekend. All hotels can open and have up to 50% capacity June 1. Bars can open at 50% June 21 but only M-F (although many restaurants with bars are open now M-F). Casinos are not including in the current timeline, so presumably they will open in August. All of this assuming we don't have a major spike in cases.

US cases will have to drop a bunch before they allow tourists. Nicaragua is causing major headaches because Ortega doesn't want to recognize the virus as a problem. So many truck drivers from the north have tested positive that the security ministry in CR is working on a plan to have drivers detach their trailers at the border to be collected by CR drivers.

Based on info given by govt, August is the best case before borders open but a lot would have to go right for even that to happen. Fingers crossed.

Remember that airlines sell tickets. And airlines ALWAYS make promises they can’t keep! CR government will decide on border openings. Still standing by...
