The tough part is getting the covid test back in time. With the 72 hour window, you really need to get the result back by the second day, so you can plug it into the Pase de Salud along with proof of insurance and location of stay.

I couldn't find a place promising a 2 day turnaround, so I just probed as much as I could. One place said they get many/most by the second day, so I went with them and kept fingers crossed.

Insurance was with Sagicor, about $12 per day for single traveler, instant confirmation.

Be sure to have all your documents ready to show at all times. Check in, boarding and customs. For the Pase de Salud you need to show the full form, not just the barcode.

I wear seat belts occasionally, Always on long drives, and always in Costa Rica. I wore one when fishing in Alaska for the 8 days I was there, but other than that I do not think I have worn one since February

Thanks for the info-Where did you get the PCR test at? your local doctor? a clinic? did you tell them you needed a test in order to travel? I know a clinic here (Pennsylvania) that wouldn’t test you unless you had symptoms.

I just bought a test kit from https://thecovidconsultants.com
They promise 48hour results. It’s not cheap, though. With shipping my cost was $235; I really want to get the hell out of here and return to Colombia!

I hear you, consider the expense an “investment” in chasing those beautiful chicas in Colombia soon.

I used a local urgent care clinic that accepted my insurance. I did tell them I needed the test for a trip. They advised me to get the test in the morning, so it makes the afternoon pickup. Then it's shipped overnight to Aegis lab in Nashville TN. I had a tracking number to check when it arrived (next day) and when it was tested (by midnight the next day, less than 48h). The result could be downloaded as a PDF.

I'm going to try them. So I guess they e-mail the results to you?

If needed in CR, Clinica Biblica has a drive thru option:

You can also just walk into the Laboratory Clinic on the first floor (through the main entrance, past the information desk, turn left) if you don't have a vehicle.

Is there any buzz on the ground about what's likely to be the situation in coming months? My previous stays in San Jose have typically included AirBNB rentals. Are those likely to be safe? Or should all tourist visits be limited to certain hotels? If so, then which ones?
