No tourists will come because of the cost of insurance and covid-19 tests.

Yes I agree that would eliminate the mongers on a budget and the cheap bastards like me, and also many of the hairy legged birkenstock-wearing gringa ecotourists that look askance at us.

We will be lucky to see CR by October. I am now pessimistic for travel to CR before 2021, but I have hopes.

Ridiculous....but not surprising, considering Costa Rica tends to be a bureaucratic nightmare and tends to nickel and dime people left and right. I almost think they'd be better off extending the ban on foreigners coming in if they're going to pull this crap.

For tourists coming in to Costa Rica there is a real chance of getting Covid 19. Not a lot higher than in the USA perhaps, but a lot higher than in the countries these flights will be coming in from. Which might affect people's choices about whether to go there.

If they decide to go (say a Canadian, European, Brit) they will be concerned about what happens if they get Covid. Hence insurance. It was easy for the INS to come up with something, and probably they are in the best position to do it. I don't think I could get that coverage in Canada. Companies have all excluded Covid -19 coverage for anyone leaving the country these days. And the hotel stay thing is not something they would have a specific policy for. Anyway, as far as I know there is no similar insurance available commercially. So, they (INS) are going to charge what the traffic can bear.

This is also partly because, as a visitor to CR, they will normally give you free treatment, but I don't think they want to be on the hook for it during a pandemic. Hence this idea. Who knows what the right price is for a policy like this. Any insurer who is going to insure you for a disease that is increasing every day in the host country is going to charge a lot.

Bottom line...I'm not going, I'm not buying.

As far as I know it is not available. Travel insurance is excluding Covid 19. And no one I know wants to go to the USA right now anyway.

Insurance with no COVID 19 restrictions

Also, the ilv4play's $504 INS quote for 23 days works out to $22 per day. If you do do two sessions a day, it raises your Price-Per-Fuck by $11. Think of it as a CR elevator chica fee. Where it really sucks is for perpetual tourists. Don't expect that bias to change.

Hey thanks so much, Boynton for the link to heymondo. It is more reasonable than INS, but doesn't seem to cover the 4K for hotel quarantine.
Actually for us, travel insurance is not a bad idea, judging how many times I have had near death experiences while crossing the street in San Jose. Just ask Pops about his massive accident, ironically, right in front of the INS building by a crazy tico motociclista.

I would expect the INS price to drop before the USA border restrictions end. Even then, I am making contingency plans to bail out of CR. Each monger needs to consider their own goals and situations. I am still a fan of CR, but there are always other options. Either way, I am here until there us a vaccine available in the US. With the orange alert, it might be boring, but at least we got pu*sy.

has anyone run the numbers for different length of stay, say a three day long weekend trip, a one week trip and a two week trip? Is the cost per day constant now matter how many days, is it front loaded ( higher per day for short stays), back loaded ( higher cost per day for longer trips)?
An extra $60-$75 for a three day trip may not be a deal breaker but $300 for two weeks might be a deal breaker for others.

How do the airlines handle their employees, are they subject to same rules if they leave the terminal area for a layover? Are they sanitizing the plane between arrival and departure, how will that extra time effect the route timetable?
