I propose sending them some money to be used for foodstuffs only, no money for rent, no cash for booze, no dinero for drugas! If we can get say 100 guys sending 25 soon, and another 25 in 2 weeks, that's 5k worth of food for employees in need! 50 is less than our typical weekend bar tab at sportsman's!

So, is the goal still to feed the employees in need or just to raise as much money as possible? If it is food, why are the employees now 4X hungrier? Will they magically become 8X hungrier? Has anyone developed a budget of the ACTUAL need?

How about some detail on how this has been or will be distributed? (Yes, I am one who has given)

Que rico papi! Muchas gracias!

The answer so far: We have to talk to Manfred about, because we never thought it will be this much.

More when I know more.

Reasonable answer

My 2 cents:
Come up with a strategy based on need, communicate it and stick with it. Don't expect everyone to agree with it. Certainly the response has been unexpected, but so has the crisis. Those contributing have shown commendable goodwill toward the lodge.

You are doing a good thing Inspector. I would ignore the gadflies. They are not worth your time.

Certainly it is a good idea and a good cause but it is also necessary to inform all how the funds are being distributed and to whom.
Like everything else transparence is the best policy.

Gents, I don't have control over this, I presented the idea to the front desk staff at the lodge. They are pretty much running with it on their own. Member NYr created the fund and will be sending the money to the staff at the lodge. The idea was to have the front desk staff purchase food for the rest of the staff. I hear one staff member is selling mangos on the street to make enough to support himself and his mother.

I am in contact with the front desk girls several times a day. I am also in contact with Manfred. They have promised accountability! The extent of my involvement now is promotion, but am pushing for a record of distribution as well.

So far, to the best of my knowledge, no funds have been sent from the GoFundMe account to Costa Rica. I am hoping that can be accomplished in the next day or so to start helping the staff. I will keep everyone informed when I know more.

For all that have donated! I thank you personally, and more importantly the staff at sportsman's thanks you!
