It doesn't appear that our beloved playground will return to it's old glory any time soon.

Our brothers in CR, with a steady US income, are doing fine. And in talking to a few of them, ( boots on the ground ), they are having a lot of fun. As previously posted here, many of our favorite top-performers are available and have no leverage to negotiate. The MP's are open, but scaled back their operations.

I am continuing to help a couple of my long time 'acquaintances' during this time, and appreciate how tough it really is down there. I am chomping at the bit to get back to Pura Vida.

It is always refreshing to hear first-hand 'boots on the ground' reports, rather than some fellow's opinion about a friend's opinion concerning someone they knew who spent 7 hours in Lower Pavas. ( The same could be said about this 'virus' situation)

The Del Rey has most likely become a hangout of the past, and the number of tourists will take a long time to come back, if at all. The current immigration rules of requiring testing within 3 days, and mandatory health insurances are proving to be a deal breaker.
Unfortunately, a tremendous increase in unemployment and poverty conditions have temporarily dampened the Tico spirit. The government employees are doing just fine, and the International Monetary Fund will loan CR more money, IF they continue the extreme poverty causing policies, designed to keep you safe.

During this down time, stuck in the depressive Gringa-landia, I can focus on the beauty of CR, from the mountains of Asseri, the fun in La Fortuna, the Pacific ocean, as well as the Caribbean beaches; while missing the latin culture of sweet young ladies who share their lovin. The best thing I can do is to keep healthy and fit, avoid the conflicting information that leads to more questions than answers, , and return to CR happy, healthy, wealthy and wise.

Costa Rica will open up to tourists. It represents 9.6% of their gnp.
I believe June 15 it will open.

I think if you are booked in September, it will not be a problem to return to Costa Rica.

The new rules will be released tomorrow. I do not think they will have a quarantine. They probably will want to know where you are going.
The Havana Humidor Room has been open and we certainly are waiting for all of our foreign travelers.

Ever hear of Mexico? Everything you speak of and want can be found there you can travel there right now as an American. I love Costa Rica too......but don't be under the impression that it is the only place that has what you want.

Don't know if this is the right place to post, sorry no political or insults coming. My friend discovered that Southwest is resuming flights to CR, but only to Liberia. He has got it in his head that there is no 14 day quarantine enforcement in Liberia. I strongly doubt that, but can't find any info. He does make a good point though, all things being equal (14 day q), why would they only fly to Oduber and not SJO? I'm a resident, but coming from Texas, I can't see any way around the Q. I thought of flying from Denver, but I was informed that they do check your actual home state. Any info would be appreciated.

From what i understand there is no quarantine just restrictions on who can enter. If you are a US citizen the restriction is based on your state of residence. They also require a clean PCR test for Covid and a bunch of paperwork.

I believe there is a link to a ticotimes article that explains all of the requirements a few posts back in this thread.

If you're a resident of Costa Rica the whole thing is different. You are returning as a resident, not a tourist, I assume. The information posted here is mostly about tourists coming in, where they are allowed in from, etc. Rules for residents are going to be different I think. Probably best to check on line with an embassy or something.

This is the current entry information from the cr/usembassy website. This is just a section of the article. I recommend going to their website and reading all the current information on Costa Rica before booking your flights. There is also useful information on the US Department of State website.

https://cr.usembassy.gov/covid-19-infor ... %20arrival.

Quarantine Information:
Are U.S. citizens required to quarantine? No
U.S. citizen tourists arriving from a permitted destinations who meet the three entry requirements – a negative test for COVID-19 taken within the past 72 hours, completion of the digital epidemiological form, and proof of health insurance – will not be required to quarantine.
Costa Rican citizens and other nationals holding Costa Rican residency who enter the country will be subject to a 14-day in home quarantine order.
If any tourist is diagnosed with COVID-19 during their trip to Costa Rica, they will receive a quarantine order upon arrival.

It baffles me why they would select the two most virulent states with the highest mortality: NY and NJ. The other states made much more sense to permit. But who the hell knows.

If you read what the CR government has said, its not about what happened months ago, it’s what the infection rate is per 100,000 in the last two weeks. NY and NJ are currently very low, they handled their spike and now have it under control.

When allowing in current State residents, current infection rate is much more important than what happened a few months ago.

Don't get me wrong I love sheep, I just prefer to eat mine and not be one. I might be a little more on board with the mask thing if everyone was wearing a gas mask type apparatus but for Christs' sake most of the face coverings are a joke. I am going to make one out of pantyhose just to make a point...... I'm wearing a mask Phuck your mandate it doesn't do shit but I'm wearing one.....

They looked worse than sheep when they stampeded through the aisles hording toilet paper, then meat and now ammunition. Those shelves were empty for weeks, without much regard for anybody who missed out. Makes me doubt wearing masks is done for the benefit of others, more like a futile attempt to save your own ass.

When this nightmare is finally over, none of these examples of herd panic is going to come close to the panic at customs when mongers stampede off the plane towards them when CR opens up.

Yes but there will be a bovine chica stampede to meet the mongers when they hit the Gulch.
Myself, I will try to cut some of the skinnier heifers out of the herd.

I found out you’re right! Wow and it’s even worse than I thought.

From what I was told from those in the know, confirmed what you said, but also explained that there has been an exodus from NY and NJ, where restrictions are fairly tight due to disproportional death rate to Florida where restrictions, such as they were, are being lifted. In other words they are infecting Florida. Also, Florida doesn’t want to count the COVID-infected as their own, so they created a another category of “non-resident.” Meaning if somebody comes from New York with COVID-19 and dies in Florida, Florida says that’s a New York death that occurred in Florida, put that death on New York’s statistics don’t count it against Florida. With this volley back and forth, it’s not clear if that death is counted at all. New York wants it counted as a Florida death to make their numbers look good.

Since it’s an election year and close to it, the “facts” get even more muddy.
