The cases in New York have been pretty flat since the end of May. People will travel around from places with more restrictions to less and at a local/state level that can make this hard to get under control To blame NY for Florida's current rising cases is a bit of a stretch though. You might as well blame Europe (where NY got it from) or China (where it started). A Virus is going to spread. It doesn't care about boarders. The question is what are you doing to slow/stop it. In NY they had a severe shut down and knocked the infection and transmission rates way down. In Florida they had a lot less restrictions and never really got the virus under control. They like to say look at how much better we're doing, but actually if you look at the daily cases now, they're higher than they were the first time Florida lifted restrictions and had a huge spike this summer.

I don’t think you can blame NY for Florida’s rising cases. I was attempting to explain why NY now has artificially low numbers. Yeah, I know it’s tempting for New York to pat themselves on the back for COVID response, but other places that had an outbreak e.g. California and Washington state didn’t have the same mortality rate. Nobody has explained why the NE part of the country is so deadly - just some off the cuff theories. In fact when you compare the NE to the rest of the USA, they are wayyyyyy more deadly areas (except Louisiana). I think Costa Rica would be wise to restrict entry of the NE part of the country since they probably aren’t aware that migrations are leading to artificially low numbers.

The reasons for Florida’s cases has so many reasons that no single factor such as migratory NY and NJ persons can be blamed. In fact, that would be another head scratcher: why doesn’t Florida have more cases and a higher mortality rate.

And speaking of mortality in general, why are there so many 100+ year old women surviving it (google it) when healthy young people are dying? A healthy 19 year old died near me.

in Florida, as on Mondays report out of 14,097 deaths, 5 between the age of 0-14, 33 from age 15-24 and 4492 over age 85, another 4079 from age 75-84. So your 19 year old case and your 100+ year old are certainly the statistical outliers. About 1/4 of all cases in people over age 85 have been deadly, so actually someone over age 100 surviving should not be a surprise

Casinos in CR? I guess thats a sign that the Lodge and other places are opening up sometime in October. Good to hear.

WiseAsh is an optimist

Costa Rica will open up to tourists. It represents 9.6% of their gnp.
I believe June 15 it will open.

The Havana Humidor Room has been open and we certainly are waiting for all of our foreign travelers.

Facebook never appealed to me. I have a life, why would I want to create a fictitious one on Facebook? Have you been around Facebook fanatics? They become suicidal if somebody defriends them. They have to post pictures constantly of their counterfeit opulent life. They have fake relationships with people they don’t even know. Why? Because they ain’t got game.

In response to above comments regarding opening..... I live here. Bars, casinos, most all hotels closed! All city parks closed! Limited hours on the beaches. 26% unemployment. 3 hours reported to exit airport. Highest reported numbers of new cases reported this month. Come on down.......everyone’s optimism to bang a bunch of babes has to be tempered with some common sense. I’m all for opening but be careful. The putas will still be here when things get under control.

I don't get it why would facebook ban me?

Anyway it is interesting how this virus impacts places and people differently. We'll certainly learn a lot as science studies it. The density of NYC certainly helps the virus spread and being first in the US probably taught some other places how to better handle the virus. They're spiking back up again though too.

Yes, I think you’re right. Now that you mentioned it, I seem to remember New York (the state) report COVID-19 statistics for NYC and then the state, like they were to be considered separate.

I’m not. The pic in your link is the central market which is a ghost town now.

People get struck by lightning too. The very few cases with non-underlying conditions still do not justify killing the economy.

The restrictions are what they are. They make no sense. I cannot sit on the beach a hundred yards from anyone else at 5pm but I can and did ride a bus from Heredia to San Jose today with 60 people and at least 15 who exited and another took their place. Probably 75 different people within 40 feet of me for 45 minutes. Every playground in Costa Rica is closed and has been for 7 months. The K*ds have been imprisoned for 7 months. All schools are closed including private schools. Their virtual learning system consists of 2 or 3 hours a week of online study. The K*ds have lost a year of school. Thing is the teachers have not missed a paycheck. The people here are angry but conditioned to accept what the government dishes out. It is dishing out poverty at the moment. The colone is now close to 600 per dollar. Most people here are paid in colones. Very few of them have gotten raises during this farce of a pandemic. Most of their loans are based in dollars so inflation does not help them, it crushes them. The working class is being taxed to pay a fat very large government sector. I was at the dentist this week, Costa Rica Dental Team. Since March they have had one customer from stateside. A friend of mine last week. They have two reservations in November. Most of their dental business is from dental tourism. The 26% unemployment rate does not come close to describing how bad things are. Those that are working are making a fraction of what they were making this time last year. At the same time inflation is hitting hard. Items I bought two months ago for 1mil are not 1350 colones. That is beans and rice. Everything else has gone up proportionally. Everything except electricity and water which has doubled in the past year.
For anyone planning to come down, the scene in San Jose is either mps at the moment or whatever you can find on social media. The Cocal is open but if they follow the required mandates there will be little fun to be had there. Social distancing would be a major pain if applied like they did at the Sportsman when it briefly opened. As long as the southern states are on the excluded list there will be little to no relief here from the tourist drought. As long as they keep all casinos, bars, dance clubs and strip clubs closed here there will be few mongers who come. The numbers here are at their peak and starting to fall. One important number is ICU beds occupied and it seems to be on a steady decline. Deaths will start to decline if this trend continues. The number of new cases they put out is about as accurate as the number of people who j walk in New York per day. They are just making up numbers to keep everyone scared and to justify the restrictions they impose. They do have an agenda and it is not protecting the health of anyone.
