Ignorance of the law is no excuse, even in CR, and it's hard to believe that the court stated that it could not be proven that CD was responsible for the content on his web site(s). Maybe they decided that the 'message' or 'warning' to 'sex tourists' was adequately fulfilled, and just wanted the situation to be over.

Yes... I think CR government made it's point. Maybe the accused will think twice next time.

I agree, but there are other guys on this board that would disagree with you. Obviously the guy is a tool , but did he deserve 2+ years in the slammer?

Strecker's alleged crime was promoting sex tourism / promoting Costa Rica as a sex tourism destination.

Not for participating in legal (in Costa Rica) activities.

And yet there are websites that promote tour packages with *******. And the local English press publishes maps of MPs, etc.

But the Costa Rican legal system isn't the US (or Canadian or whatever) legal system.

So, while most of us would have skedaddled, Dave doesn't have to (and he may not be able to right now).
