I am doing my due diligence on dentists and read all I could while seaching dentists on this board and the net in general. A few old posts on this board re his office and him. Anybody with more current info on this doc? I see he advertises in AM Costa Rica.

I want to go for the tooth whitening and a few crowns and I read where 90210 Esthetic Center burned that posters mouth pretty bad and another from there where a women's temps fell out in her soup so I am a little leery of 90210 Dental Center in San Jose.

I was leery in my quest for a great Dentista, my regular CR dentist could not do the work needed
So I went to 90210..... got great feedback from many CRT members

They take care of everything at the place.... ride... prompt appts.. trip to the drug store for your meds on the ride back home etc.

I too have been very, very pleased with 90210.

Do you know if 90210 will do periodontal (gum) work. I need to get gum surgery and bone graphs.

If they don't they may be able to provide a recommendation.

Have a guy that is renting an apt. in my building that came down to get work done by Cavallini. He is very happy with his work and said, like Greengo, that the waiting room is always full.

I used him for implants, fillings as well as some other work and continue to do so / in fact I'm going tomorrow for an exam and cleaning.

He is a great guy too.

I think he overschedules *I'm being very kind but if you don't mind a wait - in fact plan for one - he is an excellent choice.

BTW.....just as a mention - he built a wing next to the practice with rooms he rents to patients. Go down with a non monger friend who needs work done - let them stay there and you stay elsewhere.....just a suggestion for those needing an excuse or cover for a CR trip

Smile 90210 Esthetic Center told me they use Dr Bricenio for periodontal. He is on their webswite with resume, his dental school not listed, no formal post-grad education in perio listed, but I don't know what is the custom and practice of holding yourself out as a periodontist in CR.

They charge $100 for initial exam, $100 for a panoramic x-ray at another doc's office 25 minutes away, and $350 per 1/4 of your teeth. He does not use nitrous oxide which to me means he is not authorized to use sedation, (I worked for a plastic surgeon a few years) only novicane shots. Not for me. I know from friends that perio surgery is no fun, cut you to get to the bottom of your root, scrape the placque and bacteria, and then stitch you up.

I checked with American Academy of Periodontology, the only Int'l Perio Certifying Board. Requires 2 year post dental school grad education training and an exam. There are four Board Certified Perio Docs in SJ, all trained at highly respected US Perio schools, one at UCLA, one at Northwestern, one at Ohio State, and one at Boston University. Go to http://www.perio.org, click "Find a Perio" link, and then CR. All four are "downtown" SJ, so alot closer than 90210 which can be 45-60 minutes getting back to downtown, 20 minutes when no traffic, according to an email I got from a member who was not a happy camper complaining of price switching after procedures began at 90210. Who knows.

I called all four board certified Periodontists, all were much cheaper than $350 per 1/4. Haven't decicded which one I am going to yet, but it will be one of the board certified. I'll post.

Thanks for the link. My periodontist here wants, $9 K for the surgery + bone graphs. I hoping I can do better than that in CR.

Please let me know which perio you use, cost and how you make out.

Still investigating, may visit with all of the four board certified doc's in SJ listed in the http://www.perio.org link above. Got an email from a guy who had the perio work done at Smile 90210 Esthetic Center who said he had to have it done all over because it wasn't done correct at Smile 90210 and x-rays showed that he still had perio disease. OMG, to go thru that twice. No Smile 90210 for me.Stick with the American trained board certified periodontists.

Asking for recomendations is on thing, but you now seem to be the expert on the subject

Do your reserch and I hope you are happy with your choice

BTW the prices that 90210 quoted you were all way more then I paid with the CRT discount

Just the facts mam. Sorry to this employee/agent of 90210. Why didn't you post after Honeybee's post about her temps from 90201 falling out in her soup? You are wrong. Temps do not fall out, same cement, temps are sawed off when perms's are ready. Did you post after the poster said 90210 burned his gums and offered photo's? No. Do you doubt Greengo's post about his co-workers in SJ choosing not to go to 90210 Smile? Do you doubt the poster who said he needed his perio work redone in SJ after going thru all that at 90210?

So, Mr Expert, where would you have it done? By a board certified Perio doc or at 90210 who uses a dentist to do it and at a higher cost? Come on man. You can't win with these facts. Get a filling or your teeth cleaned at 90210, but leave the heavy lifting to qualified doc's, not to a North American who sets up shop and advertises in the gringo rags touting low cost and who hires also rans. There are four Board Certified Perio docs in SJ, all downtown and not out where Smile 90210 is where Christ lost his shoes, all cheaper than Smile 90210. This board is for info, not advertising.

But, not when you are having soup. Honeybee, is your post of your temps from 90210 Smile Aesthetic Canter falling out while eating soup accurate?

Scalpels and scrapers reach regardless of the gender of the surgeon, otherwise only women would be doing perio.

what ever you do; do not let DR. DITTEL DO ANY WORK ON YOU. I had him do some work on me, he is a butcher. the pain I was in was unreal and he did not care. I had to have Dentavac fix his work.

I have been using Dr. Cavallini for over 6 1/2 years and to date – he has guaranteed his work. I did have a problem with a root canal that Dr. Chen had repaired and now that moral has to come out.

Had pero work done by Prisma (other than extremely expensive) it held for a few year – but ended up with implants. Even though I like the doctor @ Prisma, the cost will make you run not walk away.

Yes – Dr. Cavallini has a hotel in the building – it’s the same or about the same price as the SL. If you’re not into the scene, then yes, I would consider – waiting is a pain and it will take up most of your time if you do the type of extensive work that I have performed each trip.

There is a little hotel next to the doc’ called Hotel Cacts…defiantly not into the scene – no air – sparse breakfast – nothing much on that side of town expect the Pizza place.

I highly recommend if you use Dr. Cavallini – Bring a good book and lots of patience’s because it is always crowded but worth the wait. Best to come first thing in the morning and sit right next to the front desk - that way your are not lost in the shuffle. Then after lunch i make sure I'm back @ 1:30 no later ... just realize the place is full of both locals and long term American patients

My only interact with 90210 is that I went on a national holiday and he was closed due to the lack of “my Planning and not his… YMMV
