Quite the contrast to the last article where he mentioned writing a book. Would have been a good stance to take months ago.

That's more or less a death sentence... considering his age.

1 year is up in a month. He may get out then, even if he can't leave CR.

I wonder if it's hurt the restaurant and hotel business that gringos use when traveling from the States, etc...

I don't think Cuba Dave has had much effect on CR mongering. In the beginning maybe but once the shock wore off, it's back to status quo. What's hurting CR mongering are lack of talent at reasonable prices and price level in CR in general. Many report that the hotties are mostly gone from SJ to Jaco. A lot of guys don't like Jaco. It's hot as balls all day and night, there is nothing to do during the day, and the town is filthy/shady. Next, chicas are charging more, almost double (from 70-80 in SJ) in Jaco. Food and hotels are relatively expensive in CR. And the exchange rate has been holding shitty for years now.

I'm in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, it's a gigantic beautiful city with lots of money, working stiffs like me, the rich and the super rich. When I visited Jacco for the first time back in 2007 people were calling it the Ft Lauderdale of Costa Rica so I was excited to see it.

You can imagine my shock when I got there, to make matters worse, there was no Cocall Hotel and the only venue at that time, the Beatle Bar was closed. The only good experience we had was there was a gringo bar on the main drag by the Beatle bar with cold beer and fabulous tacos free with every beer bought, owned by a crazy but super cool old lady from California. Not for me, thank you, the only way is San Jose ...

Hate to disagree with ya Orange, but here goes...

Ton of stuff to do during the day, a LOT more than in San Jose (unless girls is the only thing that gives you pleasure). You can go on a ATV tour, play golf, horseback riding, waterfall rappelling, deep sea fishing and a ton more. It is hot but the town is much cleaner now with the rise in tourism and crime isn't much of a concern. As for the girl problem, most of my clients get phone numbers at night and call in the day. Works out great for both.

I don't know why this myth keeps floating around when it's been disproven so many times. Girls ASK for $150 but will almost always go for $100, just like the hot girls in Del Rey. You've got to compare apples to apples (9s to 9s) not the 'average price' as the average girl in Jaco is much hotter than the average in Del Rey.

The exchange rate has been climbing the last few months...it is now 543 versus the 500 they kept it pegged at for years so a 10% increase.

As for Cuba Dave...feel for the guy considering he was just a 'face'. But yes, he has hurt the scene here.
