Warning... The Fiesta Casino has a corrupt Blackjack/Rummy table.

I have spent the last two weeks playing Rummy and/or Blackjack at the Fiesta Casino which is located in Downtown San Jose by the Holiday Inn. I am convinced at this point that they are removing face cards and adding small cards (4,5,6,7's) to the decks. It is not possible to have as many five and six card pulls for 17 to 21 as what the house kept getting, all the while losing almost every double down hands of 10 and 11 by getting a 4, 5, 6 or 7 with the dealer having less than a 7 showing but still pulling four or five or six cards to get 17 plus but rarely busting.

Costa Rica does not have an agency that regulates or monitors the casinos. Play at your own risk at Fiesta if you are stupid enough to try it as I was. Stick with the colonial casino as they lay the cards out to be confirmed prior to playing.

It is one thing to gamble, but another to play at a casino that has stacked the decks to make winning almost impossible.

Did you ask them to show you the whole decks from the shoe?

That wouldn't help, they would give you about 3 seconds before they took them away, just enough time for it to blur in front of you. They wouldn't let you sit there and count face cards.

I have the same thoughts about the colonial.....with just to many runs of 20 and 21....as most people think that the delrey is the worst place to play....I have made my biggest scores at the rey ,,,,, mostly playing tute ...rommy and bj in sanjose...just hit and run

I don t play at the Fiesta but I can vouch for the Colonial and the Sheraton. The best reason they don t cheat is they don t have to.

Careful FloridaJohn or Admin3 will be warning you about Costa Rica's blasphemy laws.

Or maybe in his world, that warning only is only given out when the complaint is about a CRT sponsor and former part owner of CRT. :P

(BTW, it's total Bullshit anyway. The CRT website is hosted outside of CR and I assume that you don't live in CR, so the law seems to only apply to what you might say when in the Country)

Lennydo does raise a good point. But, we should give bother Florida John the benefit of the doubt, and accept him at his word that he was a customer at the casino. He feels that he was treated unfairly, but doesn't give any specific evidence.

Has anyone asked the Fiesta to change the cards on one of their black jack machines or been present when the decks were being changed?

They should show the opened decks of cards to players when they make the change.

Personally, I never play back jack with a shuffle machine. If I can't see all the cards in the deck, then I could never feel safe making a wager.

I should also point out that bother Florida John is making another generally accurate statement about casinos in Costa Rica. While the government does issue casino licenses there is no regulatory agency that investigates the complaints of customers or inspects the casino and gaming devices. If you feel that you have been cheated, then your only recourse to hire an attorney and start a lawsuit.

Casinos do not have to cheat...... They only need you to keep playing and playing and in the end, the hold percentage is all they care about. Period.....

They don't have to cheat, but if there is no regulatory agency, why wouldn't they? Especially, in a game like blackjack, in which the house advantage is minimal. A few face cards out of the deck makes a significant difference against a player playing perfect basic strategy.

No way would I play if they aren't willing to show the cards face up after the shoe is played (prior to the next shuffle).

All of that said - to not see a 10 in several double down opportunities in a row is by no means something terribly out of the ordinary. Anyone who has played the game a lot has stories of crazy stretches of luck - better and worse.

The main reason I am hesitant to gamble down there is from horror stories I have read on this site relating to getting paid (or not) at the cage. I can't imagine going to the cashier, for any amount of money, and having them tell me to come back later or the next day, as they don't have the money. IMHO, just not worth it.

I, for one, am glad to hear these stories relayed to the members of this site. It's a very useful "heads up".

I wish it was only a few double down hands that didn't work out but I'm talking about seeing dozens and dozens, not just mine but other players at the table also in a four or five day run. When I finally came to my conclusion I did let the pitt boss know that I thought they were not using standard decks in the machine, and asked to see the cards, but was instructed that it was a standard four decks being used, but I couldn't see the cards. I was the only one at the table at the time, so make your own judgements.

I will never play there again after that unless, when I go in they are willing to show me the cards being used, which I doubt will happen.

Why is it that everyone who goes on a bad run in a casino thinks they have been cheated. SHUFFLE machines distribute cards in on a very random basis. I bet you would have still thought you were cheated if you altered your play and started hitting 14 against a 5 and you drew a 10.I don't understand playing Bj in an unregulated envirement IF they were cheating customers would quit playing.
