New scam goining on at the del rey and the sportsman lodge. They run you credit card and tell you it does not go thru or work. The card actually does work and they charge your card anyways. I wouldn't use a credit card at any of these places, theay always find a way to double or triple bill you. Just a word of caution.

A very obvious double charge to your credit card would be easy enough to take care of with the credit card company no?

At the DR, wouldn't suprise but probably an accident.

At the SL, I doubt it just based on the owner's super reputation. And, I have only been there for a drink 1 time since they opened so I ain't a homer for them. Too many happy customers, and too easy of a theft to solve and cure with your bank.

Del Rey i'll believe it, but Sportsmans! Has to be a mistake by whoever swiped your card. While staying at the SL during my first trip I was charged for someone's $300.00 bar tab(must have been some night) because our room names were similar. Front desk told me to take it up with their bookkeeper/accountant whose desk is behind reception and he corrected it quickly. Speak up and Bill should rectify this and of course as mentioned already you can take it up with your CC company.

That's why I only pay in cash everywhere when in San Jose (and no bar tabs).

If the credit card that you used to buy your airline ticket is not the same one that you use when you check in at the hotel, the credit card company may think you are still in the US and your card is in someone else's hand in Costa Rica. Therefore, they refuse the charge until you call them and verify the charge is valid.

Clearly if you are charged twice and the credit card company had first refused the charge, you should have absolutely no problem getting it cleared up quickly since they would have a record of the events.

Good advice. I always call my Master Card secutiry office before I leave and give them a head's up on me being in CR from this date to that date and will be hitting the ATM's, Budget car rental, which hotels, etc. Works. Avoids getting denied, phone calls/delays.

Only speaking for SL....bullcrap! If it happened it was a mistake...not on purpose. I've known the managers and owner at SL for years and Bill and Manfred would "NEVER" do this to make money!

Also, can you provide more details? Did you charge drinks or food or your boarding. For room rates Sportsmans puts a hold on your CC for a deposit which gets released when you check out if there are no issues. In lieu of that You can prepay the entire room charges and they will remove the minibar items.

5years 5 posts? I agree about the sportmens and even dr 39 trips and no bullshit with my card, more facts are needed, what was the card used for? who ran the charge, was it cleared up, sounds like he had a bad trip and wants to blame bullshit on places that we know that they run correct ( bar tab at the dr with a cc....yes asking for trouble, your hotel bill at the dr without going over it line by line, yes asking for trouble, not asking for a daily summary at the sportmens ( must do if switching room during your stay)
