Is Cocal poolside any good? Top floor two queens or bottom floor King. Also is all the action outside by the pool? Does it get really hot while you are relaxing try to talk to the girls? Thanks for any advice.

Yes to all your questions. Bed choice is up to you but I would highly advise against 2 beds if your staying alone and bringing a Chica for the night, she will find that bed much more appealing than sleeping next to a stranger. On the other hand it's always nice to have a sexo bed and a sleeping bed.

With the CRT discount I paid $175 w/tax for a ocean view room ( I think 21 ) Only had 1 full size bed, nice small bathroom & no internet, no room for chair to sit in just bed only with drawers wit TV on it.

Other than Christmas and Easter, there are no $200 rooms at Cocal. It's $110 for Courtyard and $120 for poolside room now. Add $20/night for Fri and Sat nights. But even those are crazy prices for the basic shitty rooms that I remember Cocal having. But they are capitalizing on the hooker wave now, so good for them. If there are enough suckers (I mean... mongers :P ), they would be stupid not to cash in.

(Last time, I stayed at Cocal, I paid $60. I think it was 2006... )

Pool side bottom floor with a King bed was my favorite. Preferably right next to the bar. BTW those prices are getting out of hand at the Cocal lol.

There are way better options than Cocal. Shop around.

Thanks for all your replies. I'm not so much concerned about the value. I more concerned how it is to hang outside by the pool for 2or 3 or 4 hours and if it gets hot and humid and uncomfortable.

Sitting by the pool right now, it's perfectly comfortable. You have the sunny option or under the roof. Nice breeze...it is the tropics though, that's part of the beauty. 85 degrees and partly sunny.

I stayed in a ground floor poolside room two years ago. Nice room good ac and comfortable bed. Just a couple of steps to the poolside lounge chairs.

Action by the pool starts slowly, around lunchtime. By sundown it is getting crazy.

It is very hot and humid. By 1 pm the pool water can be like bathwater.

Be advised you will get no sleep until after midnight as the music poolside is very loud. If you like to crash early look at an oceanfront or courtyard room.

Yeah, I stayed ocean side, but had a chica with me, big mistake, go it alone or with buds. My understanding is the girls can not go into the pool unless they are checked in with you at the room... I will say it again, don't bring anyone with you.. It is absolutely packed, and the employees there, well when I was there in July 2015, will eye up Gringos, not sure why that was, I had more of the tico employess eyeing me then the girls.. Maybe they think I was scamming or something don't know. the bar area is awesome, I also stayed down the road at the sister place of the delrey, can't remember the name, but it was dead, I think there were like a total of 6 people there including the employees, but again chica with me, so really didn't matter.

Canciones del Mar is the name.

Jaco hotel options:

After first 2 trips at Cocal back in 2004/5...I found other options and never looked back!

If you are solo, or better yet 2-3 guys. Check VRBO, Craigslist and Airbnb amongst others.
So many 2/3 bedroom condos on playa/ocean with pool and walking distance or a $5 cab ride from Cocal.

My 2 favorites are the Palms & Bahia Encantada. If you make the effort, I usually get a 3 bedroom 1300+ sqft condo facing ocean with pool for $200 a night plus reduced cleaning fee for 5 days. Try to book with owner versus agency. There are better deals 2-3 blocks off beach if you are on a budget.

A 1 -2 bedroom on beach can be had under $125 a night.

And...Monaco Condos are always a bargain.
Finally check out evo- properties - they manage 20 houses in a gated community outside Jaco and the best deal is casa San Miguel - a 3 bedroom 3 bath house with awesome pool and Ba area for $100 a night!

Good luck.
