Not really close. Pull it up on Ticotimes. There is a article about it and a video. Everyone that knows the airport can see that the tower is on the right side of the plane instead of the usual left side for a landing.

I have over 30 flights into Santa Maria and I have only landed coming in on 25 twice. They were both on clear days and having a window seat on the right side of the plane gives you a view that leaves a lot of people nervous who are not familiar with landing in Costa Rica. It is amazing how low you are to the ground and how easy it is to spot landmarks as you are on approach. It is the only time I can see my house when landing in CR. I can see most of the gulch area and it makes you think the pilot is way to low to even make it to the runway.
