@Hank...Absolutely. I did nothing to anybody. I walked in, went to the desk and asked for the room # that I verified by phone maybe a week before I got there. When Helmuth told me it wasn't available because somebody had just checked in to that same room for a month, I told him that was fine...this is business. I get that. I wasn't rude to anybody. Normally they wait for you to have a girl in your room and then they take your shit and blame it on the drunk gringo for not watching the girl. This time, the mother phuckers didn't even wait for me to have a guest over. They came in as soon I walked out of my phucking room.

I've been staying at HDR for 10 years and never had a problem, always felt safe, excellent maids and staff. I know certain people here criticize the place but I feel safe and secure and well taken care of there. I have friends stay at SL, Dunn , Scores and La Amistad and they feel the same about those places. With so many good places to choose from with no history of problems, why take a chance at this out of the way place with no chicas ???

Maybe they don't ripoff the guys that stay a month, only target the guys that are 4 or 5 night stays. Scubabum had $600 stolen and I wonder if one Tico got all of it or it was spread between several. The way Helmut announced you room#, sounds like it is a team effort between several guys to separate gringos from there money

@Netgems....I agree. At SL I had no worries or problems for an entire week. Last trip I stayed in Oso Grande for 7 days by myself...kinda expensive at $179/night. This time I decided to try a new place and it happened to be ML. Next trip I'll be at Scores and hopefully it will be as good as everyone reports. Live and learn and I was lucky that it didn't cost me a dime. The reason I stayed at ML was because a friend of mine who stayed there several times told me he really liked it and never had problems. So, I guess I was just one of the unlucky ones who got targeted. Another thing I wanted to say was that Guy Grande came to my room and talked to me about the situation. There was nothing he could do because he has no power outside of Marketing responsibilities. He felt bad about it and apologized and told me he wished there was more he could do......@Hank....My guess is that there are a few guys in on it. There's a lot of shady shit going on in this place. I seriously hope somebody buys this place and hires some good employees.

Yatzie...I relayed this story to another guy and he explained it to me. He had the same experience and after playing around a few times, he figured out the shower fan is not vented correctly so when you have the hot water going (rising hot air) and the fan going it lifts the ceiling up. You know I'm not a fan of the place but I figured I'd chime in and let you know.

It did happen and was a really strange story...but it has an innocent cause. Now on Scubabum's story, not much chance of that one being an 'accident' and sure has no 'innocent cause'.

I understand what your friend is saying, but I had no hot water or a fan on. I was standing there brushing my teeth...lol I'm familiar with those ceilings because I have them at home also and I know what closing a door can do also to cause that. This case had nothing to do with hot water or a fan. Trust me on this one. I phucking watched someone lift up the ceiling 3 times. Also, the hot water and a fan didn't change my code on my safe....a key did that.

It's an innocent mistake, they must have heard you say you're coming to Costa Rica to get a little pu*sy and they had it waiting there to surprise you and it accidentally got up in the drop ceiling...yea...that's the story....

I was at the ML for 5 days last month & really enjoyed my stay. I did read some of the issues about the room safes so I locked all of my cash in the casino's safe to avoid problems. I did not like the room safe simply sitting on a shelf & not secured to anything making it very easy to walk away.

After reading this thread I believe a room on the 4th floor may not be the best idea. I stayed on the 4th floor last month without incident.

I plan to stay at the ML again in the near future & will report on my experiences. If some of my sh*t is stolen during my next stay then I will definitely write an INCIDENT Report & list all of the details including how it was or wasn't handled properly.

Would an INCIDENT REPORT thread be valuable for the CRT site? Sort of like Trip Reports but instead to simply list negative events at establishments to caution other members so they are warned in advance. Just a thought.

By the way, bad Chica experiences would not go into the INCIDENT REPORTS. The bad chica reports can go elsewhere.

Tiles pop up when window is open. It drove me nuts my first time there until I figured it out. Creates some kind of draft.

Maybe they do...I'm not sure because my window wasn't open.

Stayed at ML 3 times. The 3rd time in July. Had a good first day and night--counted my $ in morning (which I do from habit). I was missing $300. Me and my buddy checked out that morning--I didn't say anything to the ML people because I couldn't prove anything. Went up to SL for the rest of our vacation. I've been going to CR since 1997 and have never had a problem like this before. Just got home today from another CR trip-- was telling my cab friend this story, he told me he picked up a guy at ML on Tuesday and heard an argument at the desk-- a man complaining about missing $ out of his safe. It could have been a pretty good hotel-- I personally will would not consider staying in the place again.

Thanks for sharing....I'm tellin' ya, this place is phucked up right now. They got big problems. I can almost guarantee you that there's a few employees in on it. When I complained to Helmuth at the front desk....he couldn't have phuckin cared any less.

Only my opinion-- I think the place will soon be boarded up again.

Surely Guy Grand has read this thread and talked with the owner about this?? If Tico employees are getting all the stolen cash it only hurts the hotel. If would have to say Helmut is also in on it, why else would he act like he didn't understand. The management/owners even if they are trying to flip(sell) the hotel would be crazy to continue with these employees. There is plenty of good, honest Ticos to hire. Maybe the theft of cash is part of there salary??? This board CRT at least keeps us informed about this practice.
