Guys don't like to be disrespected, especially in front of women, and with a little alcoholic courage thrown in, they may start a fight.

If you are coming into San Jose at 10:30am, you should be out of the terminal at 11. There's usually no immigration line until 1pm or so, when many flights gets in at the same time. 3 hours is way too much. You should be in your room by 11:45, noon max. Checking a bag will delay you by 15-20 minutes.
