I am arriving next month after the duty free shops are closed, but I can snag a couple at the duty free in Mexico City where I connect. How many bottles can I bring into CR? I'm not much of a drinker and it's only my second trip. What should I bring that the girls would like? Maybe some flavored rum? I know I like an occasional vanilla rum n coke.

Thanks for your help in advance. I love CRT!

The new duty free store location at the San Jose Airport is no longer a cheap place to buy booze. The prices are very close to what I saw at the Auto Mercado grocery store in San Jose. Perhaps when they moved the store to the baggage claim area the CR govt decided to impose a large tax. It appears to be no longer duty free. Either that or the owner is just gouging us. Another thing Muy Tico.

Thanks for the info, sounds like another reason to shop in MexDF. But can I bring in 2 or 3 bottles (liters) duty free?

It might depend on what you buy. A couple weeks ago I bought a liter of Ron Zacapa 23 at the MIA duty free. I subsequently compared the price to the SJO duty free and to Auto Mercado. MIA was about 15% more expensive than SJO and Auto Mercado was almost twice as expensive as SJO. (Volume to volume comparison.)

A bottle of Dolce and Gabbana for a favorita was cheaper in Miami. Que lastima that they didn't have it when I checked at Marshall's!!

#1) Bailey's Irish Cream-just about ever girl likes Bailey's

#2) Vodka/Cranberry Juice-for the real drinkers

Which is just a tad under the 6 bottles of 750 Ml that BlueDevil mentioned (6 X 750Ml = 4.50 Liters). I love it when there's agreement.

That was courtesy of the late Irish Drifter (aka Ding Dong). He could always be counted on for solid accurate info on CR.

Is there a limit to the number of bottles one can buy at the SJO duty free INBOUND store? Don't know. But to me buying there is a great deal. 750ml bottle of Belvedere vodka was $30 at the airport 2 weeks ago, close to double that at a local liquor store. If you use one of the porters near the baggage carousels, they'll wisk you by customs. You guys coming for a 2 week trip......just how many bottles do you all need?

Interesting, on-point question. It can vary wildly depending on socializing nature of the Bros. I'd just want one and something a Chica might enjoy; other Bros with a penthouse suite and plenty of company--?? Thing of it is, you can't get too many--partial bottles could be moved to fresh incoming Bros, full ones to a tavern (maybe).
